June 27 Daylily Sale at Uptown Marriott 9-5

Buy daylilies at the Albuquerque Daylily Society’s Summer Daylily Plant Sale at the Marriott located at 2101 Louisiana Blvd. NE. For fast direct access to the sale, enter the hotel from the East entrance off the parking lot. Unusual new introductions and hybrid daylily plants which are not available at local nurseries will be for sale at this one day event, and members of the Albuquerque Daylily Society will be on hand to answer questions about planting and cultivating daylilies.

Daylilies are hardy perennials that grow well in our high desert gardens. Each daylily flower blooms for just one day which is where daylilies get their name, but many cultivars have dozens of blooms on multiple stalks and a collection of daylilies can offer continuous blooms from June through August in local gardens.  Daylilies were first cultivated in China more than 4000 years ago and made their way to Europe via the Silk Road as packing for trade goods. Daylilies traveled to the United States with early settlers who yearned for a bit of home in their New World gardens. Many daylilies are edible and fresh and dried flowers make colorful and tasty additions to salads and cooked dishes.
